I'm going up to Vancouver this weekend. Can any of the locals point me in
the direction of any great ceramics galleries?....or any other "must see"
art this weekend.

Thanks,

Kat morrell

Kat,

Hope you have fun. Make a beeline for granville island. It is a bit
of an oasis in our city. There is a public market for fantastic food
opportunities. There are many great restaurants. Pretty views too.

And it's the home to the gallery of BC Ceramics Guild. Two or three
doors down from the brewery ... you should be able to find it quite
easily.

There are a number of other art worthy stops on the island, clay and
otherwise. Opus frames has its original store there (they sell all
manner of art supplies, though their ceramics choices are quite
minimal). Across the street from Opus is the Emily Carr college of
art and design. They have a student gallery, and I'm sure if you find
a friendly person, a tour of the ceramics studio and kilns would be
forthcoming.

Granville Island can be easily reached from any point near false
creek. There is a network of little boats that operate from many
points around the inlet ... Yaletown (trendy shops and restaurants),
Science World, and other spots.

Enjoy your stay.

Mark.

Hi Kat

Granville Island is always pleasant and there is a bunch of clay to see
there including the bc gallery of ceramics
http://www.bcpotters.com/gallery.html (they can direct you to the others
from there)
You'll also find other pottery studios including Bob Kingsmill and Don
Hutchisions studio and a number of galleries and other studios,
glass,painting etc,

Probably your best bang for the buck on a short visit.

As for other must see, The BC museum of Anthropology at UBC is a one of a
kind world class art and artifact museum, wonderful west coast culture and
world culture collections. If I was to recommend one stop in Vancouver,
that would be it.

Enjoy and let us know what you found.
