I wanted to relay a good experience I had recently with a kiln manufactur=
er. I recenlty acquired a used Skutt KM1027 digital kiln from a hobby ce=
ramics store going out of business. In the process of getting it into th=
e studio, a small thumbscrew that the lid bracket rests on was snapped of=
f. I live in a rural area, and can't just run out to get parts. I got o=
nline, and sent an e mail to Skutt through their web site. I didn't even=
have a part number, just described what the part was. Within days, they=
mailed me not only the broken thumbscrew, but the mounting bracket, whic=
h spared me having to try to drill out the broken thumbscrew! Even more =
surprising, they did this free of charge! I phoned to let them know no b=
ill was included, and they assured me there was no charge! Needless to s=
ay, I will definitely keep Skutt in mind for future purchases, and wanted=
to let the list know. I wish other ceramic suppliers were so helpful. =
(Like the not-to-be-named foreign pugmill manufacturer who NEVER has answ=
ered my requests for information, despite numerous claims they will "get =
back" to me.) =20

Hey! I was shocked to see where you're located. I spent six years of my
childhood in Herington and remember it vividly. It's so nice to think
that a potter is now there. The most exotic thing I knew about when I
was there was Mrs. Costello who raised and sold tropical fish. I spent
many hours at her house. I found a seam of clay near my
house--yellow--that I fired while burning our trash. It came out a nice
pink. That was my first foray into clay that was not part of school or
a lesson--just something I did on my own. I was about 12 I think.
Anyway, thanks for reminding me about my Kansas days.

I now live 3 miles outside Dushore PA on the side of a mountain in the
middle of a forest and I'm working on building my own kiln. Just got
involved in clay again after a ten year hiatus. Wow, retirement is
great! Best of luck to you.
