Helen -
Thanks for posting those Lou Marak websites, but I wanted to clarify one
thing. He combines drawing, painting, and sculpture in his work, but he is
not a painter. The painter Lou Marak in Kansas City is a different person.
It was wonderful to see the images his ceramic sculpture with the incredibly
trompe l'oeil imagery on those websites. Lou was my teacher in
undergraduate school at Humboldt State back in the late 60s and early 70s.
He's been at it a long time.

Hi Vince,
Oops!!! I did wonder about that, but others have moved on from clay, or
moved into clay, for that matter, so I didn't check it out enough. Bad web
sleuth! ;)
Yes, they are wonderful pieces.
Regards,
Helen

He retired from Humboldt State in 2001, I had the opportunity to go to
undergrad there while he was teaching, and he was a fantastic teacher and
artist. His pieces are beautiful, and often contain many layers of
underglaze until he gets them the way he wants.
