I replied to Randy off list but since some of the public replies were
negative, I thought I would "defend" the company which has been very helpful to
me......

I make many of my own glazes, but I saw an ad for Coyote's high-fire
underglazes and tried them. I also tried many of their glazes during the past
two years based upon the pictures displayed on their website. I have used a
variety of their glazes and the combinations are normally true to the
examples on their site. However, I prefer the ready-mixed containers rather than
the bulk glazes. I have tried both. The bulk colors don't seem as true to
the examples. It must be my water or maybe I had the glazes too thin. If you
want specific examples of the combinations I have tried, I would be happy to
tell you whether I have tested them. One glaze that I particularly like by
itself is their light shino. I make some Sushi-type plates with a stamped
design. On the flat surface, the shino gives a multicolored satin finish that
looks and sells well. However, I hate the same glaze on a verticle
surface...it is just a blah, medium brown--not like the same glaze on a flat surface.
I particularly like the company attitude.....Their website used to be a real
"bear" when you tried to order their high-fire underglazes. I once
complained to them about how long it took to get their sample colors to reload after
you had selected a color and wanted to continue shopping. They agreed with
me and said that they were in the process of changing their website design.
They gave me a big credit to buy their underglazes in exchange for testing the
revised site. It now works well. What a nice company.
More recently, I lost a large amount of glazes and underglazes in the
flooding after Katrina. When I reordered the stuff, the owner sent me gallons
instead of the pints that I ordered. Nice doing business with them.
