After all the good advice from so many clayart "folks" regarding my new gas kiln and safety for all, I gave the list to my husband, a rather sane, methodical, kind, intelligent pyromaniac. And I trusted all would be well.

After all necessary pieces were in place, I asked why the hood wasn't bigger (it's fine this way) why there wasn't a triple wall pipe (not necessary, double is fine) and why the stack wasn't 9' high. (Oh..well...) There is fireboard on the one wall behind it as well as 2ft thick stone wall. One good thing.

Today I fired a large bisque load, only to ^05. Thank goodness. As I turned it off, Aiperi pointed and said "Mom, is that wood (in the ceiling around the non-touching pipe) supposed to be gray and smoking?"
Eh, no, none of the four areas we discovered were supposed to do that.

Carl is coming up the driveway this very minute. Hmm. He won't be very happy and (I) will be out of kilnter for a while.

Regarding cones:
I have received good advice on the configuration of my shelves for even heat. (Thanks Steve, Bill, others) Today I put 4 cone packs (04,05 and 06) near each of the 4 peepholes. Bottom standing strong (slightly tipsy on 06), all others bending to the greater powers. I've tried many configurations to have even results throughout. Anyone have some suggestions?? My next load will be glaze ^6. My gaskiln has 4 corner burners and there's a big hole center top.
Bring the h(n)ot dogs and marshmellows.

I'd love some advice on the matter and hope all have a wonderful holiday weekend.
Marianne
