The Bedfords on sun 16 apr 06
>And an aside question: I would like to incorporate decal images onto
sculptural vessels; preferably that are fired on, but would like to have the
images (that I make) made into decals. Do you know of a reliable source for
this type of thing, and can anyone tell me the process for firing on decals
these days.
Hi Centa,
My process for decal application is the following:
Clean surface, finger prints can leave a residue.
I've used only glossy surfaced pieces.
Soak decals in tepid water, usually soaking only 6 or 8 at a time. Using
tweezers pick the decals out of the water and place them onto a towel.
Slide the decal onto the surface. Blot excess water with a paper towel then
squeegee the decal gently to remove any air or moisture that might be under
the decal.
Be sure to let dry 6 to 8 hours or overnight before firing.
Caution: fumes when firing are EXTREMELY NOXIOUS!
Cone 018 for black and gold.
Cone 022 to 020 for reds and greens etc.
FIRING MANUALLY using my small kiln (approx 3 cu ft) no vent.
Lid propped, top and bottom on low for 1 hour.
Lid propped, top and bottom onto medium for 1 hour.
Close lid, top peep out, top on medium and bottom on high.
OR
FIRING WITH A CONTROLLER on a larger kiln (approx 10 cu ft) vent on.
Program the target temp and use fast firing mode.
I get my decals made at Beaumont Glassware and Decorating Calgary, Alberta,

Any other questions don't hesitate to ask.
Good luck with your project!
