kiln firing time

I have a Skutt KM1027 kiln with automatic controls. I recently moved into
a new house/studio. The kiln was taken apart for the move. It is now
firing longer than it used to for a similar firing. I set it for ^6,
med.speed, hold 15 min. It went 12 hours which normally would take about 10
hrs. It has a new thermalcoupler and the elements are fine. It has only
been fired about 40 times total for bisque and glaze. I have checked the
electrical curcuit and everything is fine. Does anyone have a suggestion
for me?

Are you sure the electric supply is the same? Is the amperage coming
into your house the same as your last house?
Another thing that might apply: here, in NYC, our voltage is normally a
little low--208 instead of 220. Is it possible that you have a
208-rated kiln (yes, they make them like that! ) in a 220-supply house?
It would still reach temperature, but would take longer.
Have you checked the relays? one could be loose and separating during
the firing.
Finally, maybe it's just time for the firings to slow a little. It may
just be coincidence that it started after the move.

Been there, Lynn

It sounds like your new studio may have lower voltage
than the previous location. Have you checked the
voltage under load? The voltage may be a full 240 or
208 but then drop while the kiln is firing.
