im trying to convert to single fire and am using glazes in mastering cone 6
book-i want to drop the epk and replace it with ball clay-i know the
alumina is lower in ball clay-im wanting to change the epk to ball clay in
the glossy glaze 1 and semi matt glaze 1-what else would i have to adjust?

Hi Wade,
I'll do it for you - just to make sure - Glossy base #1 and High Calcium
semimatte base 1 - correct?
What kind of ball clay will you use?
You need more ball clay because ball clays have less alimina - but they
also have more silica so you have to take some of that out.
This is not difficult when you have a glaze calc program - you even have
the advantage of comparing ratio and expansion to see just how close you
get.
You can also do it by line blending but it takes a lot more time.

The easiest way to convert to single fire is to first try adding
bentonite in 2% increments, up to 8%, without changing the recipe.

RON YOU WERE CORRECT ON THE TWO GLAZES-I HAVE ACCESS TO TENN AND KENTUCKY
BALL CLAYS-WADE ALSO ARE YOU GOING TO BE IN ATLANTA IN MAY-MAY WANT YOU
TO HELP ME UNDERSTAND USING THESE GLAZE SOFTWARE PROGRAMS
