bad behavior for a kiln?

updated fri 21 apr 06

Is it bad to open up a kiln when it is very hot - oh, say 1600 degrees F -
in order to take things out and stop the heat? Am thinking of silver clay
and whether it would do harm to a baby kiln to do this.

Thanks!

Well the main thing you would have to worry about is Thermal Shock and from
that your brick lining would fall apart. The best thing to do is let the
temp get below 400 degrees before you open the lid
