Hi Po,
That sounds like she is talking about some of=20
those Jingdezhen decals we got on your trip last=20
summer.
Some of those decals are just the decal image=20
on some kind of covercoat. They don't have any=20
paper on them .They come with a tissue=20
interleaved but are not attached to the tissue.
Regular decals here have paper with glue on it.=20
When you soak it off some of the glue goes with=20
the decal. No paper - no glue. No glue - no stick.
Covercoat is an alcohol base varnish so=20
adding some alcohol to the water to apply it=20
probably softens it up a bit - enough to make it=20
stick.
I see at my clay dealer that you are importing a "bugs decal" among othe=
rs.
I got a sheet of that "bugs decal" when Sandy=20
Kinzi found them and passed out a bunch of them=20
to us on the bus. I had a hard time with it.=20
Wouldn't stick to the ware. I found that if I=20
used a little "O-GLUE" mucilage slightly diluted=20
with water- on the back of the decal it sticks=20
fine.

After reading this post I made a couple of=20
experiments. The bugs decal is definitely on an=20
alcohol soluble film, For the first try I put a=20
glug of 99 percent isopropyl alcohol in about 2=20
tablespoons of water and put in a piece of the=20
decal which promptly dissolved-too strong!
Next try I measured it: 20 ml isopropyl and 80=20
ml. water and it worked about right. Might even=20
be better with slightly more alcohol.
If you don't have 99 percent isopropyl regular=20
70 percent isopropyl rubbing alcohol will work=20
fine. Just use a little more when you dilute it.

Decal Problems,
A lady called yesterday, complaint about our product--the decal paper would
not able to attach on the surface before firing. --sorry, I don’t have your
numbers!
I have called someone in China and found out the solution: You may just need
to add more alcohol into the water. It will help. It may happen that depend
on the weather and temperature in your area.
Please contact us at 800-689-2529. www.ChineseClayArt.com,

Thanks!
