Hi Mel,
I am writing to ask a favor of you. Danielle McIntosh (of the Potters
Council home office) tells me that the enrollment for the next Potters
Council conference -- The English Connection -- is really lagging behind
the normal curve, so I am writing you in the hope that you will help get
out the word about it. Obviously I have a special interest in this one --
not only am I presenting at it, but it was my idea to begin with. But all
of us who care about the Potters Council have a vested interest in having
these conferences succeed, so that Danielle can continue to devote her time
and attention to them. They are a great way to share what we know, and
along the way let people know about the Council.
Please, if you know anyone who might be interested in attending, drop them
a note or give them a phone call. Especially folks who live in this part of
the country... I'd really appreciate your help!
Here is what my friend Kevin Crowe is writing to the folks he has taught:
THE ENGLISH CONNECTION
June 1-3, 2006 in Staunton, Virginia

The English Connection is a conference that will explore the lives of 6
potters, 3 American and 3 English, who learned to pot in England at the
same time. These potters became friends and influenced each others work in
unexpected ways. These influences and friendships have continued for 25
years, shaping both their collective work and the work of potters
throughout the U.S and Britain.
It is rare to have these six influential potters in one place to share
histories and aesthetic journeys over so many miles and tons of clay.
The American potters are Bill Van Gilder, Dan Finnegan and Nan Rothwell.
The Brits are Sylvia Dales,Toff Milway and Micki Schloessingk. From their
beginnings in England, all these potters established studios with national
and international reputations. This conference will be a rare and exciting
opportunity. Don't miss it !!
(To be honest, Mel, I am not sure that Sylvia and I quite qualify as
"influential" potters with international reputations, but it true of the
other four presenters. And all six of us have a lot we can teach and share
with others.)
Thanks!
Nan
