mel's day on the computer

updated sat 6 may 06

mel jacobson on wed 3 may 06

here is my day when i have to boot up
my computer from scratch every time i go
online.

by the way. of course i am getting at least 80 bucks an hour
to do clayart.

boot up...four minutes. dial up. two minutes, wait for
clayart to load 157 posts. yesterday 7 of them were
over 80K. spam. now, this was just one sitting.
while writing this note...9 more just came into my mailbox.
of the 157 posts, 5 were clayart posts. time...twenty seven minutes
to do 5 clayart posts. twice yesterday there were corrupted spams
in my mailbox melpots2 so had to call corecomm tech and have them
taken out. 7 minutes each time....

called acers and talked to the tech about clayart...nothing
comes of it. no one knows what to do. now three days without
hearing a word.

had 6 private emails from clayart folks with need for private advice.

wrote a series of letters to clayart friends like kathy forer, maurice about
alternative methods to do clayart. 30 minutes.
kathy wrote me a ten graph reply. read that and went to three website
30 minutes.

i do clayart at least twelve times a day...often in the late a.m.

i think i will leave my computer on. that will save me about an hour
and a half. and if i do not answer any questions about clayart..
or `mel, change me to digest will you?` or...`take me off this
god damn clayart you asshole`. as if i signed them up in the first place.
or. `take me off clayart, but i don't know what address i signed up with
three years ago`. that alone will save me two hours a day.

so, we can all do the math. even wayne's math will do.

each person will run their surge protection, on off system as they
choose fit to run it.

i stand corrected with the use of electricity.
and this entire email is done in a bit of fun.
i do clayart because i love the concept, what it does for
many potters and clay people around the world.
and, i will continue to do it for as long as i am able.

Mayor Mel,

I know spam has become an intense problem. I don't know if the listserv
software can handle it or not, but I would like to suggest that Clayart
be put onto a keyword or password system by YOU providing a specific
code word to be included in the subject line of each and every e-mail
that we send. A filter could then be set and any e-mail without the
password or keyword in the subject line would automatically go to the
trash can. You could periodically change the keyword, and send us all
copies of the new code the same as you send the listerv instructions
periodically.

This, I think, really could work.

Regards,
