you are correct, of course, about wood kilns and
down firing reds. gunk is always possible.
but, in a gas kiln, that simple down fire will
just make sure all the pots get that nice
slow cool and turn red.
we have been doing it for about ten years now
both at home and at the farm. our `dependable red`,
that kurt makes is no longer green. it is bright red, every time.
and, i have not seen a green pot for ages. (unless i intend it.)
remember folks out there in clay land, david does some
very unique things. his wood firing is controlled and superior.
he does production work in a wood fired kiln that does not
have snot running all over the work. he does not seek
fly ash flapping on his production work.
his work is very clean and bright. it is to be admired.
like many things...his work has a `signature` of professionalism.
david studies glaze, firing, production work.
i feel very blessed to have him as a friend and fellow potter.
