Claudia, Get all you can. I salvaged a boiler in the late 70's and these
bricks have served thru three woodfire kilns ^10 to ^14 and are now in kiln
number four. I've moved around a bit and these bricks go with me. The red
ones may have come from the outer wall, yet I have some red ones from a
boiler here in Arizona that, just to be safe, I won't use in an arch but do
have some through out the verticle walls.
Test: Prop one of each kind of brick you wish to use up on kiln shelf posts
placed near the ends of the brick. Brick laid on it's widest flat sides.
Fire this arrangment on a clay "dummy pad", to protect your shelves, to
cone 10, gas or electric. If they don't slump, bloat or otherwise melt or
deform you have good bricks for a high fire kiln, arch and all.
