I hope you are right - and I believe you are. Clay Art Center in Tacoma
worked with me to design a kiln that would fire well and easily and suit
my height and physical strength.

Your work is stunning, by the way. Many more good firings to you, as well!

16 cu ft. is a good size. you can fire more often,
always testing, and still have a full dinner set in
there. we have 2 gas kilns at our studio:
1 36 cu ft olsen updrat, and a downdraft @ 16 cu ft.
I prefer the smaller. I can fire it alone, lift the
shelves, etc.
When I first got to sf I saw Ruby loading a bisque: at
77 yrs old - she was lovingly loading each student's
work. (lovingly to the KILN). the shelves were of the
size she could handle.
That larger kiln we replaced her 24 cu ft kiln with is
TOO big. The shelves are too heavy for me. although it
fires well, is just too big for me to fill so often to
get consistent results.
You will come love that size kiln, i am sure!

Best wishes and good firings, Bonita,

who RARELY posts - but monthly would be more like it!
