The way I understand the greek technology is this:
They used a fine terra sig and a not fine slip.
They fired in oxidation, then reduced and then reoxidised. During the
reduction the entire
pot turned black. When reoxidised, the open slip reoxidised back to
orange. They Greeks
were the first to use the atmospheric control inside the kiln...as
far as I know.
