Eric,

I do not think it is an easy task in the case of
Shinos.
1-I have a cone 04 orange/red Shino here :

Use a brown burning clay, a clear cone 6 glaze and
add
the same amount of opacifier/colourant as in my 04
as a
starting point.
2-Usually, they say that replacing Custer by
Nepheline and adding
10 % Gerstley Borate or Frit #3134 could lower a
high fire glaze
down to cone 6. But, I think this trick has to be
proved right in the
case of Shinos.
Good luck, keep me posted,

The closest Cone 6 shino that I have seen is Richard Bursch's Nutmeg.
Experiment with it. I changed the kaolin to red art and have gotten some
wonderful shino type glazes at Cone 6. It is usually a brick red if you
spray a light coat on. The more you put on the color gets light and
lighter. Looks very good where you have put it on thin and then sponged
varying layers on at different thicknesses. It will begin to pinhole if you
get it on too thick. It can get shiny if you fire in the lower Cone 6 to
Cone 7 range.
Works well in gas if you use the redart. If you don't it will turn to a
clear slightly amber color on tan stoneware.
