Everyone,
The Houston Potters Guild's non-profit entity HPG C.A.M.E.O. is sponsoring
our first annual teapot competition. The details of the event will follow
later; but what I need from Clayartland are professional publication quality
images of teapots that could be used and credited appropriately. They will
be for promotional purposes in our fundraising efforts (brochures, magazine
articles, etc.) and the teapot event which will be held January 2007 at the
Houston Potters Guild Shop & Gallery.
We are looking for a variety of images in all manner of teapot styles from
all over the United States, and the world if the interest is there.
If any Clayarters are willing to submit one or two of their best teapot
images, as well as a description, artist & photographer, we sure would be
appreciative.
If you'd like more information on the event, e-mail me off list please for
now. Or if you can wait, complete information should be going out starting
in July 2006.

Mel, I hope this appropriate to post here as it is long.
Initially, we were asked for images to accompany an American Style magazine
article we proposed that they were very interested in. As this is our first
Texas Teapot Tournament, we didn't have representative archives of teapots
images. Their deadline is before our call for entries which is in the works
now. So I queried Clayart for help.
So many excellent images were offered to use! We wanted to select some for
the magazine and some for our printed material (brochures, postcards, local
publications, etc.) Clarification needs to be made now to all contributors
for images since my first request. I will privately e-mail those who
graciously responded to ensure there are no misunderstandings.
It was decided for this event to now be represented to the public
accurately, we are requesting teapot image contributors enter the
competition versus using their images for promotional purposes only. An
annual membership entry fee of $35 into HPG C.A.M.E.O., shipping & insurance
will be the total artist's outlay. Besides their artwork of course. The
details of teapot entries will be in the brochure/call for entries.
HPG C.A.M.E.O. is Houston Potters Guild Clay Arts Museum and Educational
Organization. We are sponsoring this event January 2007 as a fundraising
building fund for our newly formed 501c3 nonprofit to have:
Clay Museum
Emerging Artists Studios
Pottery Classes
Workshops
Chariable & Fundraising Events
Retail Space facility
There will be two awards: $1,000 Purchase Award "Best of Show" juried by
Nick de Vries, Professor of Fine Art, University of Houston Clear Lake.
This teapot will be the first in the Museum's collection.
There will be a Black Tie Private Opening for event's underwriters January
4, 2007 7-9p with a brief lecture on "Collecting Modern Ceramic Art".
These underwriters will have first pick to purchase of the month long
exhibit. All entries will be for sale with 50% commission net proceeds
benefiting HPG CAMEO. The exhibits' location will be Houston Potters Guild
Shop & Gallery, 2433 Rice Boulevard, Houston, TX 77005, 713 528 7687.
The second award will be a $500 "People's Choice Award" to be voted on by
attendees at January 6, 2007 Public Opening and Best of Show Award
Announcement 7-9pm.
Okay, I hope that covers most questions until I can publish the appropriate
materials. If there are other questions, please ask. I have to admit to
being so excited from the beautiful images we've received so quickly. HPG
nor HPGC will not use the images previously submitted without the artist's
approval. For those still interested, a form will be provided with query. I
hope the response continues from this community with the new information.

Hello,
I terrific potter to contact for teapots is Evan Jones of Dania Beach, Florida. I've worked with him personally on several occassions, he's the best. Only have to look at his website. He's also had a special feature on Cable TV, Discovery Channel, I think, featuring how he mades 5 foot teapots. He was also on the cover of Ceramic Monthly in Nov. 05. Great article and photos. Check it out evanjonesstudio.com
