$1,900 OBO
I am selling my Super Kiln. It is a heavily modified, extremely accurate,
very efficient and energy saving medium size electric kiln.

This kiln began as a Skutt 1027-3-ZC, 240 volt, single phase. ZC stands for
Zone Control, which means that each of the three kiln rings has its own
thermocouple, resulting in perfectly even firing from top to bottom. More
Zone control information is at:
http://www.skutt.com/products/zonecntrl.html
http://www.skutt.com/products/zonec_spec.html

This kiln was modified by wrapping it with an additional two inches of fiber
insulation which is sheathed with a metal jacket. The extra insulation
decreases firing times and costs, and greatly increases element life. At
high-fire temperatures, element life is probably at least quadrupled. I
don't know for sure, because I have never had to replace my elements since
adding the extra insulation.
The extra insulation that I used is made by ZIRCAR Refractory Composites,
Inc., which claims that " The fibers are soluble in body fluids... " meaning
that it is the safest insulation health-wise available. More information is
at:
http://216.6.169.43/rsbl-sol.htm
In addition, the ZIRCAR insulation has thermal conductivity and stability
characteristics that make it far superior to Kaowool or Fiberfrax, and about
twice as expensive.

The controller is the smt 700, which is the latest generation Bartlett
Instrument Company touch pad. Bartlett has been shipping this model to Skutt
for about six months.

Included with the kiln is a Skutt envirovent which has also been modified
and improved. Many other extras are also included.

Armadillo Clay in Austin quoted a price of $2,375.00 for a KM 1027-3-ZC on
06/20/06. An envirovent adds over $400.00. I am selling the whole package
for $1,900 OBO. This is a serious kiln. If you do high-fire electric, you
need this kiln. The extra insulation makes this a true cone 10 workhorse. I
used this kiln to produce crystalline glazes. See examples of my work at:
http://www.handspiral.com

Also available are kiln shelves for half the price of new. I also have type
S thermocouples available for a little extra. Unlike type K thermocouple's,
type S's never need replacing, and do not degrade, meaning that they never
need to be re-calibrated.

I am selling this kiln because I am replacing it with a computer controlled
Geil gas kiln.
