Readers: I finally got the 3.5 L x 2 ' w x 2'6" high fountain piece
finished in stoneware and bisque fired up OK. I had wondered if I would
have a back pressure in the kiln as I put all the shelves together (3.5)
tight and didn't know if this would cause problems. I did raise the
kiln bed up 6-8 inches from normal. Otherwise the firing went pretty
well. I feel confident now that the glaze firing should go along as
usual. After this work is done I will begin to construct the second
level which will add more height to the completed work. I can't wait to
see it out in my shade garden and to enjoy the sound of running water.
I glazes the piece up yesterday (in place) as it was too heavy and large
to move to the spray booth so have lots of cleaning up to do.
I also juried into the first ever North Dakota Hall of Fame show which
will take place in Medora National Park in Sept. The Hall of Fame's
Center of Western Heritage and Cultures: Native American, Ranching and
Rodeo played host to 25,000 visitors last summer after officially
opening on August 6. I look forward to this event.
