consulting the chinese almanac (tong shing)

Greetings to the list and to Frank Colson in particular:

Everyday my mother-in-law tears away the top page of her squat rather
plain looking Chinese wall-calendar to reveal the new day=92s date. Under
the date at the bottom of each fresh page are predictions (the same thing
as a horoscope) for what to do and for what to avoid doing or getting
involved with. According to my mother-in-law, the calendar is an
abbreviated set of predictions that can also be found in their expanded
version in the traditional Chinese almanac, the Tong Shing, a book which
she no longer needs to buy since she has the free calendar that she got
from a place in her village in mainland China. Anyway, just in case anyone
was wondering about what day in the Chinese lunar calendar that July 19th
corresponds to, it is June 24. Furthermore, today=92s predictions tell us
that it is not a good day for acupuncture and that it is a good day for
people born under the sign of the Chicken to get together with people born
under the sign of the Rabbit.

And speaking about signs, this reminds me that when Frank Colson posted
his entertaining Zodiac predictions for potters, he only mentioned 11
signs. What about Capricorn? I am a Capricorn and if it wasn=92t for my
mother-in-laws trusty green and red calendar I would
have had no idea of what sorts of things that I should and should not have
been doing, when his post came out (at least I was lucky that our Chinese
calendar predicted that it was a good day to take a bath =96 I don=92t know
what I would have done if it would have said to keep away from water and
activities associated with bathing.)

Oh, and by the way, the calendar says that the best direction today for
worshiping deities that you may be consulting for help with money matters
is towards the southwest. There were many other notations on the calendar
about a variety of subjects including lucky numbers, etc., however, my
husband told me that he had already translated the most important stuff.
Gee, I hope that he is right and I am not missing out on any important
information like whether or not it=92s an auspicious day for sending out
Clayart posts.
