all in one.

no more walmart bashing, whatever you call it.
go to the archives...it comes up every year.
why don't we have target bashing, home depot
bashing, lowe's bashing, macdonald's bashing
and any other legal company in america?
the last time i was in walmart, i did not see
chains on the employees. they can work any place
they want...go across the street and work at kmart.
they are all lined up on the road.
is that a better place to work.? (thanks mert for that line.)

anyway.
i won't post any more, or until next year when
it starts again.

when using the word volcanic ash, just substitute the
word ....pumice.
order it from your dealer. it is the same stuff.
i have not found ash from any certain mountain
or eruption to be `more perfect`. just order some
from your local clay supply house. it is great stuff.
i used it for 30 years with gertsley borate.
60/40.

i am getting closer in my own mind about
the bloating.
high iron CLAY...and i think some of it did not get
mixed well enough. i think tony is on track.
a layer of poorly mixed high iron clay...like
a fault or seam in the ground.
i made a batch of plates out of it...and
high temp/cone 12 was not happy with
the seam.
BLOAT.
i will slam and cut, then hand wedge the next round a bit
better.

OFF TO S.CAROLINA ...JOYCE WILL HAVE CLAYART.
BE GOOD.

HI all,
I'm back from busy summer nomail. I'll just throw this out, since I'm
not sure if it's been said before:

Years ago when I was making my own clay I experienced bloating with a
fairly dark clay body that had some redart in it I think. My memory
of the solution, after lots of discussion with friends was that iron
and silica together in a reduction environment can cause bloating. I
specifically remember that for me the level of silica in the clay
needed to be lowered....Also I backed off reduction at that
point... just fwiw
