Mel has multiple references using Kaowool M-Board as a damper.
Does anyone know the thickness/temperature rating Mel uses?

Chris- I see you have not received an input on your question, at least not
what I have noticed.
Here are some tips about using ceramic fiber board. I just finished firing
an updraft kiln with a double flue/stack ,in which my dampers are made of
quarter inch fiber board. Started using fiber board as dampers in the
'70"s. They are usually rated at 21 to 2600F working temps, This just
fired kiln has the same ceramic fiber board dampers for about 18 years now!
The nice part about this material is how many uses it can be put to:
1. Fiberboard can be cut by hand to any shape or size with a common box
cutter
2. Fiberboard can be used under a pot foot to assure that old glazes or
kiln wash doesn't attach to the bottom of the pot during firing.
3. Fiberboard can be custom cut, with curves, to fit around outside of gas
burnners to control the secondary air intake.
4. Fiberboard can be made as a custom sized "sagger" enclosing a pot
within a kiln firing without saggers.
5. Fiberboard, cut into a small square, can be used as a "shim" ontop of
kiln shelf posts which have uneven heights.
6. Fiberboard can be painted with glazes to make a picture or design, and
fired exactly like a tile. Create a smooth surface first with a kiln wash
application.
That's just a starter for you.
