The cost of my site is my time.
If I were to give my time a price I would quote a price for a site
like mine at about $1,000. to $1,500.
I do my own web work... it has been a learning process over the past
10+ years.
I started out getting web presence on sites that offered free listings,
some even offered free pages... if you search you probably could still
find some things now. That is how I got my feet wet.
Then I just jumped into the pool and got Adobe Go Live. I find it a
very easy program to work with. There are a lot jof great web
designers out there.... it isn't cheap, and it isn't easy work, so
don't think you should get it for nothing. Hours and hours go into
creating a website. There is a program called Contribute that will
allow one to update a site from another computer, without the software
that was used to create it. That is a good option for alot of people
after they have their site designed.
There are things out there that are amazing... I found one the other
day: www.otherpeoplespixels.com
if you want to get started with a site it is a cool deal. hosting,
domain and a templated site that is a nice template and all you need is
your images on your computer to upload, and know what it is you want to
say, it is a nice do it your self starter. If I am not mistaken they
offer all this for under 200 a year. AND you can update during the
year for no additional fees.
Is it worth the time, effort, dollars - I think so.
Compare shooting slides, preparing packets sending them to galleries
for review, with return postage (SASE) and never getting them back.
the cost of dupping slides and postage adds up. Even if your just
showing clients new work, if it is on the web it is no postage - no
printing
Plus your also available for people you don't know to send this info to
to find it. I just got picked up by a gallery in Cincinati OH because
they were doing a search for contemporary sculpture. I asked her how
she found me... totally through a google search for sculpture. She
feels very confident that she will be able to sell my work. I
researched the gallery and will be honored to be included with artist
such as John and Lynn Whipple, Bill Starke, Jerry Holister, to name a
few.
