Hi All
Just thought I'd add my 2 cents worth.
We just bought a "reconditioned" Peter Pugger from the Company itself.
Saved a grand on the price.
Had it shipped to Pittsburgh where I was doing a show, in order to save the
customs broker's fee if the transport company had brought it into Canada.
Well, it was pretty much a new machine. The only part not new was the
reduction gearbox. All the cast aluminum parts were new, as was the
mixing/pugging auger, the vac pump and (I'm told) the electric motor.
Well, the fun started when we got it set up to work. It would only mix/pug
clay if there was a light load in it - too light to work. Called the
Company, cleaned it out, tried it again, same result. Called them again,
went through the processor's control codes, and was told then that they'd
have to send me a new machine.
They were very good about all of this - they absorbed shipping costs for the
replacement machine and for the return of the old one, which I packed into
the shipping crate after I received the replacement.
I thought the service in this case was excellent. A great bunch of people
to deal with.
Also, the clay coming out of the machine is really much nicer to throw with
than we had gotten used to using.
Before this we used to "cut & slam" to blend clays before pugging. That
should be left to young potters with energy to spare.
Adding moisture was done by punching holes into lumps of clay with our
fingers and putting water into them and putting it into the pug mill. Very
messy and time consuming.
Peter does it better!!
We certainly like our decision to get a machine that mixes as well as pugs.
