Hey there...
Went to Hong Kong and Macau (Macao) for a week. Wonderful trip and lots to
tell about China and the transition to China....8/3 bus to shen zheng..then
to hong kong....group from jingdezhen ....guong dong province...where all
our american chinese food comes from....
hong kong historical architecture....church burned down in 1840s
now a monument...to what?
ocean park...disney a la china... theme park...dolphins act... like marine-
land of the pacific.
sharks, aquariums, diamond jewelry,and fake rolex and montblanc pens,
132 banks chartered where there is no land to grow rice and little land for
housing.
hong kong tower..bungee jumping and vistas...mountains and the water.
Whaaa!
vistas of much
beauty...cable car ride over the mountains... awesome.
strawberry cappicino at starbucks....shopping...galore....
Macau or macao....in english....gambling and shopping for
electronics...cameras, etc. Portuguese language and heritage. Interesting
place. Many cultures and languages....buildings going up like crazy. Not
the 'real' china however. Very much too clean£®Still LOTS of people however.
NOW...Back to mainland and reasonable prices....busses that smell and go
slowly
and along bumpy roads and carry chickens and people....7 hours back to
campus...but along the way two days of visits to very small villages....some
with no names....only 12 families in the smallest. beautiful farms of rice
and
vegetables...Jiang Shu and locale. medicine, wine and salt mines.
NanChang...big city, and universities. ( Back to spitting in the
street...and
other rude behavior that occurs here in rural and other areas.) ugh.
Melon trucks, red and gold banners that celebrate life and living here...
'games of chicken' in the taxis and bikes and pedestrians...who will back
down?
Jet Li billboards....actors like Jackie Chan...popular and yet unseeable on
tv here....movies are available on computers only in JingdeZhen.
Cars are Buick La Sabre, Passat, Santana, Suzuki, Benz and BMW....
Long straight roads...no problem with eminent domain.
Water buffalo along the roads.... in the fields. Docile and huge, beautiful
beasts. Hard workers like everyone here.
lots of police cars, but no one seems to respect or care about their
presence....
coal piles...coal train cars everywhere...fuel that now works...but also see
nuc. plants from the train¡£
