As it happens, although a potter at heart, by day I run a PR and =
Marketing
Agency.=20

Don't let the press kit intimidate you. Simple is OK: an intro letter,
images or a sample sheet, a pricing sheet if that=92s applicable, and =
contact
information. If she wants to feature your work, the most important part =
will
be the images, as they must be high res and press ready.=20

I happen to have a friend in of all place NM who is a great (and not
expensive writer) that I use because she's very good at this type of
writing, and she can work over email and the phone. =20

For your images, unless you are a very good photographer with a decent
setup, spring for a professional, and make clear that you'd like a disc =
with
300 dpi large, color corrected photos in eps, psd or tiff format.

Let me know if you have other questions.=20

G'morning fellow potters,

A Magazine Person came to the Studio Tour.
( www.blueridgecountry.com ) Hung out a bit Then asked me
after all that if I had a Press Kit? She explained to me that the Magazine
She works for had sent her out on the Tour to find Local Talent to feature
in the Blue Ridge Country Magazine..

Hmmmmmmmmm well I cant say I never heard the words " PRESS KIT" and I
hate to admit that Promotion is not one of the hats I wear very often and I
am NOT GOOD AT IT !! Out side of sending out post cards and talking to
people at shows or on this forum Promotion Kit has never been anything I
have done or had time to look into. Heck my web site is incomplete and
wouldn't even be there if not for my daughter.

Of course I am slammed right now after spending 3 weeks shoveling out this
dump to be an adventure worth coming back for to potential customers..
Must worked

I am thinking a writer or some sort ? Does anyone know of one in the
Asheville NC area or someone that can work long distance? I need major
help writing up a blurb about me... and if anyone on this list that does
have a Press Kit could you email me and let me know what the heck it is so
I can go about trying to have one..

PS mark your calendar for OCT 5th 2006 if you wanna see what I expect
to be a silly show of me making a platter... HGTV ( home and garden tv)
"That's Clever" comes on at noon and five pm eastern time. Episode 244
I will be one of 4 folks making something on the show. gulp... I have no
clue what's gonna show up after 9 plus hrs filming and maybe 5 min show
time..

Also my pal just put up a web site that's still under construction.
It's a bit difficult to get to the gallery and I had to go to other links
to finally get it to work but the work is wonderful. You have to point
your arrow on the thumbnail and it will show an enlarged view. I will
also say as nice as the pictures are the REAL THING is way better.

This girl and I use to have long distant knob wars back in the early
90's... and she is one of the most encouraging potters I know and for
an area rich in great potters She definitely stands tall among the best of
them...

One way to promote yourself to magazines is to include
downloadable, high resolution photos on your website. You
should have photos not only of your pottery but also of
yourself in your studio.

The press kit is a folder that should include--

A list of your accomplishments
A list of interesting experiences you've had as a potter
Quotations about your work
Copies of articles written about you
A CD of high resolution photos

The information above will help the writer think of
questions to ask you in an interview. Having plenty of
background information on you saves the writer time.

Sincerely,

Arnold Howard
