"Right now I'm using HWC cone 5/6 porcelain. I like that it is very smooth
so as I make my faces and resmooth them 500 billion times I don't get bumps
coming to the surface."
I use this clay body and slow drying is required. I like it so much that I
take its punishment. When I make mugs I let them rest in a closed container
for 3 to 4 weeks. I use a modified formula from Lana Wilson. The ratio that
I use for slip is 1/3 roll of cheap toilet paper, (no wax to make it soft)3
table spoons sodium silicate, 3 table spoons
soda ash and enough water to make 1/2 gallon liquid. Use a stick blender to
emulsify. Add your clay body to make a gallon. Add water as required. I
add food coloring to identify. This thick mush with fiber is agressive and
grabs where you have scored, and it likes to be burnished.
The second posibility from Highwater is Little Loafer a cone 6 stoneware
similar to porcelain. It is not in their catalog. Try it you may like it.
