We just did a pre buy of 1000 gallons at $1.94. This will last us for a year
both heating out shop and firing our 11 cf updraft.

I recently paid $1.69 per gallon from Amerigas here in New Jersey; they =
were apparently having a promotion, and delivered the gas when I only ne=
eded about 150 gallons to fill the tank (a 500 gallon tank).
In the past I did a crude surfvey and found tremendous variation in pric=
es with the vendors saying: Depends on how much you buy over the year; d=
epends on the size of the tank, etc.
I found that by carefully explaining that I was a potter, rather than he=
ating my home or some such thing, Amerigas was more flexible in their pr=
icing. Years ago I used to buy very large quantities of propane for an =
industrial application(44,000 gallons at a time)and found that prices we=
re rather arbitrarily assigned by the vendors; they have lots of room f=
or movement in their prices and so you have to negotiate with them each =
time you place and order.
I hope this gives you some additional insight into propane pricing.
All the best;
Marvin Flowerman
