updated sat 2 sep 06

Hi! Is there a way to change the settings so that I don't recieve a
gazillion emails a day? I love looking through the archives and don't want
to leave the list, but there are too many emails for me to keep up with.
Thanks, Holly

Holly:
You might want to get the digest version. It's ONE email instead of
individuals.
From the email address you use to get clayart now, send a message to
listserv@slv.ceramics.org and in the body of the message
(NOT the subject line) type SET CLAYART DIGEST
then send the message. You will get a message back from the server
confirming your choice.

Hope that helps,
Wayne Seidl

You may look at the archives for the list or change your subscription
settings from http://www.ceramics.org/clayart/

Moderator of the list is Mel Jacobson who may be reached at
melpots@pclink.com.

Hi Holly,

I know what you mean, there are a lot of oh lets say non-ceramic
conversations (like this one) going on here in clay art. I see a lot
of postulating and fight pickers that usually post small novellas.
Sorry, but I don't care about your trip to England, what you are
reading, teenage angst, or how you pronounce the word Artist.

I usually go through and look at the subject lines and if it's
something I don't care about I will mark it for deletion.

Maybe we should make a new list called non-clayart, were everyone that
wants to tell us about his or her day, philosophy, experiences in the
grand canyon, or how much toilet paper they use can post. That way
after the weekend I don't have 156 new messages to go through.

Holly, you can look at the bottom of any Clayart message and find a link =
that says, "You may look at the archives for the list or change your =
subscription
settings from http://www.ceramics.org/clayart/ ." You prolly want the =
digest format, which comes out once a day as a conglomeration of all the =
posts which have been sent that day. I personally hate the digest form =
of any list because it's such a PITA to use, but to each his/her own.

Others have suggested answers to your stated problem, but here's an
alternate method of handling those gazillions of which you may not be aware.

Most email programs have the ability to recognize a message sender's name
(in this case, "Clayart") and to place all that sender's messages into a
single "mail box" (or "folder," or however they term it) that is SEPARATE
from all the rest of your mail. That is, it sorts your incoming mail into
separate stacks, just as I do every noon on the kitchen counter when I
fetch the U.S. mail: letters from family here, from friends there, and
catalogs in that big basket on the floor.

If this is something that appeals to you, let us know which email program
you use, and someone on the List can likely show you how to do it.

I don't post often but I just have to put in my 2 cents here. I agree
strongly with A. Kettner and Holly whoever they are. Clayart used to be full
of valuable information about ceramics. Now it seems to be more of a talk
fest about anything at all. I must admit I delete most of the posts without
reading them. Time is valuable.
