muse of fire: the ceramic figure now online

updated mon 11 sep 06

Our September exhibition, Muse of Fire: The Ceramic Figure, featuring
Tom Bartel, Liz Bryant, R. Bruce Flowers , Marie Gibbons, Dana
Groemminger, Gregg Jabs, Kyle & Kelly Phelps, Katy Rush, Matt
Shaffer, and Paul Andrew Wandless is now available for viewing on our
web site.

Our innate emotional and intellectual responses make the human figure
the most powerful form in art. The figure is the most direct means by
which artists address issues of humanity, ideas about ourselves as
individuals, and views on our culture. Muse of Fire: The Ceramic
Figure features 11 contemporary ceramic artists. From R. Bruce
Flowers' reflections on same-sex relationships to Kyle and Kelly
Phelps' musings on racial conflict, we see in clay the vexing issues
of the day. Artists Liz Bryant, Marie Gibbons, Paul Andrew Wandless,
and Dana Groemminger use the human form as a canvas for the
expression of inner life, turmoil, and often unseen facets of the
mind. The work of Tom Bartel, Gregg Jabs, Katy Rush, and Matt Shaffer
explore sexuality, identity, mortality and the impermanence of life.

This is not a critique, just a comment and a
suggestion.

I really found this particular piece disturbing and
kind of awesome at the same time.

This is seriously messed up, but I think I could
actually live with it and enjoy it.

The rest of the show is very interesting as well.

Thanks for sharing the link.

I think everyone in a show with an online presence
should mention it here on Clayart so that we can all
see a little more than the same bits and pieces in the
trade journals.

Thanks again.

As it happens, I plan to be in northern Indiana on Saturday,
and just may be able to make it to the opening. Any other
Clayarters besides Charlie planning to be there?

Many many thanks to Don for driving a couple of hours out of his way
to come to the reception this evening. The reception was well
attended, the food and wine were great, and it was nice to meet a new
person from clayart.
