The last batch of cobalt carbonate that I bought wasn=E2=80=99t ball-milled
fine enough, and cobalt specks have shown up in one of my glazes.

Will the cobalt specks affect food-safety? They are sitting in MC6G
Light Stormy Blue. I have posted a picture of the specks (with a=20
yard stick) on my web site at http://www.potter.ca/specks.htm .

After mixing the batch of glaze with the specks, and before I noticed
the problem, I had mixed 4 buckets of glaze with this batch of cobalt.
If I sieve this glaze though a 120 mesh sieve will this get rid of the
specks? Will Light Stormy Blue fit through a 120 mesh sieve?

This is one case where testing the glaze before using it wouldn=E2=80=99t=

have helped. The problem didn=E2=80=99t show up until the bottom of the=20
bucket (and the bottom of the bag of cobalt carbonate). I do sieve
my glazes through an 80 mesh sieve before I use them and I am=20
continually mixing the glazes.

Thanks,

Brenda, I think your cobalt speck glaze is very nice and much
more interesting than it would be without the color variation.
It's impossible to know without testing, but I would be very
surprised if the color variation would affect food safety - these
are not intense black cobalt concentrations, just spots of
more intense color.
