Scroll down to "Dragon Brass Tool" to view the shape.

Randy,

Try some bubble wrap on the clay then putting it thru the slab roller.
Use the small sized bubbles. It worked for me. I was using it for fish
scales.
I don't recall if it was old or new bubble wrap.... likely old as I recycle
the stuff.
Experiment with it.

Randy:
Not sure if it makes "snake scales", but for dragons, we use onion =
netting
(the red net bag onions come in from the supermarket).
Hey, all reptiles look alike to me .
Give that a shot.
Best,

Randy,

I have seen people use the plastic stretchy pot scrubbers unraveled and
used to impress on the clay to make snake skin like pattern. You might
also want to try a copper one unraveled too.

You can also use those fishnet bags that onions come in. You can get a larger area done.Sometimes if you're lucky, you can get those strawberry pints that's covered with those fishnets thingies. They make wonderful patterns. Have fun!

Tulle fabric pressed onto smoothed clay
makes a very good approximation. Use the
large-mesh or small-mesh type depending
on the intended size of the 'snake'.

I like using expanded metal to produce scaling. It comes is various size=
openings, and lots of different shaped openings, too, not just scales. =
Not cheap stuff, so look for scrap. The down side is the edges can cut =
you, so tape the cut edges. C. A. Sanger

I have use a ladies belt (found at goodwill) that was a small
interlocking chain or maybe a better way to explain how the belt looks
is almost like a metal screen rolled up. So if this belt work may be a
piece of metal screen would work.

Randy,
I have gone through various threads on this subject suggesting veg
/ fruit carrying / scrubber nets. Try “Copper Scrubber “by the name of
“Chore Boy “made in USA is considered to be the best for this purpose. It is
sold in the packing of two in a box for less than $ 2.00. Each scrubber is
in the form of loose ball, open it carefully avoiding any damage to the
copper mesh. Once opened, it would be like a 12 inch long sack opened from
both the sides. Now cut it with the scissors from one opening to another to
get a very fine copper mesh of approximately 12 X 12 inches. Since the mesh
edges are quite sharp therefore it is capable of making deeper impression
(depending upon the exerted pressure) in to the clay as compare to the
meshes made of fabric/synthetic materials. The impression taken by this mesh
gives a look of breathing snake scales and by stretching it one can always
vary the size of scales especially at the tail end / on curl giving a
natural look. Now what to do with second scrubber? Just give it some friend
for making snake scales.
