Hello ClayArt,
Some of you were asking about Michael Banks so I
wrote and he has given permission to send his reply to those of you who were
asking about him. As you can see he is well and working hard with his new
wife in Sarawak. We hope he will be back when this job is completed.
Regards and Best wishes Maggie

Hi Maggie,
Very nice to hear from you and get the forwarded ClayArt mail. I too miss
writing to the list, but just don't have the time currently.
Phuong and I are in Sarawak (North Borneo), evaluating a gold property at
the moment. Very interesting here with the population being equally divided
between Dyaks (headhunters), Chinese and Malays. Hot & steamy weather
though. The annual rainfall here is over 5 metres per annum! The capital of
Sarawak is Kuching, a small city of about 300,000. Kuching means "cat"in
Malay.
There is terrific white ball clay deposits in the plains around the city,
and also under the city too. I saw some in a deep building site. The great
clay resources supports a big sanitaryware and floor-tile industry. They
also export ball clays around the world.
I'm not sure when we will be back in Nelson because I have more work to do
in Vietnam. Possibly I'll be back in November..
All the best to you and Derek,
Michael
