high fire crawl

updated thu 5 oct 06

Yeti on mon 2 oct 06

I am looking for a recipie or resources for a high fire, cone 9-10 crawl
glaze. The desired texture is to be that of a dry lake bed. I am starting
test tiles next week, but it would be nice not to start from scratch.

I am also interested in a Raku Crawl if anyone has suggestions.

Thank you,

Nathan

I will also mention that temperatures and measurements are not as
crucial as they are in ordinary glazing and you need not be as Bill
Blake said "enslaved by another mans system" (your quote)

A simple glaze of 70 % Neph Sy and 30% Mag Carbonate will give you a
very white ^10 crawly glaze that looks like dried out mud. I believe that
overloading any glaze with Mag Carb will do that for you. (line blends,
tests
and more tests) The above glaze is very fragile, so it is best to handle it
as
little as possible, take it right from glazing to the kiln.
Good luck!

I just tested a crawl. I tok a shino glaze and added 30 % Magnesium Carb to
it. It worked . Im also going to test some more of my glazes by adding 30 %
Mag Carb

Testing is the only way. I would not glaze a pot or a load of pots until it
was tested
