Dear Stephanie: There is some exciting architecture being done by Frank
Gehry on his home turf-Toronto. He designed the new addition for the ROM
(Royal Ontario Museum) which has one of the finest collections of Chinese
ceramics in the world - a must see. Directly across the road is the newly
renovated Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, a 2 minute walk the Bata Shoe
Museum, 2 more minutes Art Gallery of Ontario, 1 minute Ontario College of
Art which is the most interesting contemporary architecture I've ever seen(
it is this black and white box up on four legs and the building is literally
cantilevered overtop of the city streets, 1 more minute and you're at Prime
Gallery where Bruce's show is on.
The Gehry project at the ROM is underway and as you walk by you see this
incredible creative use of steel. The welding of the angles and design blow
your mind. This part of Toronto will be a must destination.
The largest winery in the world (Mommesin I think?) have planted the grapes
5 miles from me. Gehry is the architect for the winery- 37 million dollars.
They say 1 million peoople a year will vist the winery just to see the
architecture. Sour Cherry is on the wine route and this excites us as to
what it may do for real estate values.
Best,
Tony

Hello Folks,
Tony, I believe that Gehry is doing the Art Gallery of Ontario, and
another architect is designing the ROM, even though it does look like
Gehry's work.
Read in the archives about your decision re mfa. Congratulations!
The right place to be for you.
I have been away for a few days to Quebec, and have been having
trouble with getting clayart messages, so I have been checking them
on the clayart web-site. It is my server, they are giving me a huge
headache. Let's hope that things are better now. At least I got
subscribed and we will see if it stays that way this time.

Daniel Libeskind worked on the ROM, last time I read
on Timeout London. Tom Buck took me there a couple of
years ago. I made him sit through the talk about the
forthcoming exhibit at the 'new wing'. We got free
coffee too. Good times!

Tony & Liz,
I'm pretty sure Daniel Libeskind is doing the ROM. He has almost completed
the Denver Art Museum's expansion.

Thanks Liz! Your're absolutely right! I confused the ROM( Royal Ontario
Museum) with the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario). Gehry is doing the AGO and a
German architect is doing the ROM. The ROM addition is called The Crystal
and caused quite a commotion in Toronto since it is all glass. I walked by
it on the way to The Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Arts and thought it must be
Gehry. It is a thing of art not just a rectangle of bricks. Toronto is
becoming the NYC north of 49. A Nceca is just around the corner. I think it
started in Toronto anyway.
Best to you in Shelter Valley.
Cheers,
Tony
P.S-
BJ count me in at Flagstaff. If you're girlfriiend likes Brad Pitt she'll
flip for me.
