When I wrote that discarded pots can be used to practice glazing with, the
thought furthest from my mind was that they then should be FIRED!
I have suggested before that people make up a mock glaze--just clay and
flint, cheap enough, and some food coloring. They then practice THE
TECHNIQUES of glazing. Pouring, dipping, double application, etc. The pots
can be reused and reused.
I think a lot of people freeze up--and rightly so--when they get to applying
glaze--which is I think THE most difficult aspect of potting.
I suggested to someone recently that she glaze 30 pots with mock-glaze to
get the hang of it. She did, and she did.
