In outdoor installations, the main concern is protecting the=20
kiln from moisture such as early morning condensation.
By wire casing, I assume you mean that you will replace the=20
cord. One thing to consider is that redesigning the=20
electrical system may void the UL Listing. (This is general=20
information; I can't speak for Skutt, of course.)

Amanda:
I'm sure the kiln folk on the list will chime in here, but if your
electrician is proposing something along the lines of "Sealtite" =
(plastic
encased metal) or "Flextite" (all plastic) waterproof flexible conduit =
or
similar, I would recommend it. Not only is it waterproof, but crush
resistant as well.=20
I learned that lesson when I dropped a kiln shelf on mine. Glad I had =
it in
flexible conduit then.
Make it a little longer than you need, so that you can move the kiln for
(eventual) cleaning of the area. Your electrician will know. Just tell
him/her that you need to be able to shift the kiln at least one full =
width
for cleaning.
Best,
Wayne Seidl
