Huh? The only time anyone wanted a background check, I was applying for a job at Los Alamos. This sounds nuts. So does the university do a background check on everyone who enrolls?
Well, I can't get there anyway Tony, but wish I could.

Hi all,
Last call for the workshop I am giving in less than two weeks. If you plan on coming, please let me know as the Ranch has to run a background check on all participants as there will be student there participating. This is an excellent opportunity to learn kiln building techniques that you can adapt to anything you would build and many other skills to add to your experience.

oeGlazing/Firing Workshop Thursday Nov 9th - Sunday November 12th $400 (includes housing) Glazing for the wood kiln/wadding, stacking concepts and fire is like water, loading the kiln, setting up the shifts, firing around the kiln, end of firing reduction techniques.

There's a hot rumor that they'll be screening for liquids at the
gate to the ranch and making the students take their shoes
off before firing the kiln.

I had to laugh about Steve's joke...and then I started to wonder 8-) This is an alternative high school and since they are students, anyone that will be working with them has to have the standard background check. This is standard now for working with any students. I guess they have it down to a couple a days. Heck, in 5 minutes for $50 anyone can find out anything about you. How's that for privacy. It's all good with this group. Tom Spudic raised $5000 via a golf tournament to raise funds for this kiln building project. My hat's off to him. I admire his ambition and energy and committment to the students. Especially since he did it without any committment from the school board before-hand as to their matching funds. Was approved last week. Anyway, I meet with Smith Sharp tomorrow to finalize materials for the workshop. Generous, kind people at Smith Sharp (aka Firebrick Supply) in Minneapolis. I'm excited about the project as I get an opportunity to build
all the enchancements and mods I've made with my kiln the first time around with the Ranch's kiln. Looking forward to the experience and sharing.
