Dear Matt MacIntire,

If your clay or you glaze contain any iron oxide this will happen when =
the temperature (note temp not cone value) pushes towards or exceeds =
1300 deg Celsius. Iron oxide decomposes at these temperatures and =
evolves Oxygen. This is the basis for oxidation fired Oil Spot Tenmoku =
glazes.

Less that one percent iron oxide, red or black will make this happen.
