Red Stripe beer for the guys

clennell on fri 6 oct 06

It's Canuck Thanksgiving weekend and we get invited to my friend the winery
owners worker appreciation turkey dinner. Martin is one of the winery owners
that treats his Jamaican migrant workers with respect. They come back year
after year and I know most of them. Martin puts on the dog this evening with
white linen table clothes, silverware, candlelight, friends ( that includes
me and Sheila) as servers, Red Stripe beer for the guys and copius
quantities of great wine from his wine cellar. Although his own wine is
organic and fantastic he always introduces us to new wines. He took his
entire staff of 10 to Napa Valley this spring so probably some good
Californian is on the wine list. He is a fantastic cook and a stickler for
detail, so it is and amazing evening.
My first drink will be a Red Stripe with the boys. It always makes me think
of my ole Clayart buddy Arti. The day his wife phoned me from Texas to alert
Clayart of his double whammee brain tumour and stroke I will never forget.
Speaking with him months later delirious and crying, I will also never
forget. David H went to his bed side to see him and see what he could do- a
real friend. What seems to get forgotten when people start bashing this
list is that behind these messages are real people. Real people like Arti
that made real friends on this list.
Cheers,
Tony

Yo Tony.

Sippin a red stripe ALWAYS makes me think of Arti...His Troubles, and my
impending marriage coincided in a way that let me loose track of him, and to
a great extent all my Clayart friends. I am finally finding the time to get
back online more, but not with the hours nightly like before my nuptials!

Has anyone heard from Arti lately, I sent several emails, but none were
answered. David said that he was extremely despondent over his condition.

Later.

Tommy: I can only think the "no communication is the strongest form of
communication." I think from Arti's silence and my looking thru Gentleman
Daves silence that the stroke and brain surgery was a knock down punch. Down
but not out in terms of life but certainly down and out in terms of writing
and potting. Stuff not meant for public consumption so we are left with the
memory of a very crazy dude.
Clayart does have its Boot Hill. Some of us attend to the flowers on
occassions like a Red Stripe that bring back the memory.
On the occassion of your marriage Tommy I'd like to share my fathers advice
on it- The first 25 years are the toughest.
Best,
Tony
