Hi Bambi,
Have patience with yourself...and that word again ..practice.
I`ve seen some people able to throw the first time, but I`m guessing most
of us took time to `get it`.
Tell yourself while you are throwing that scientifically it `has` to
centrifugical
forces, etc... or Relax, look away for a bit and let your hands learn it for
your you.
Sometimes our minds get in the way.
It`s only clay..If it messes up you can rework it and try again later.
For me, when I am relaxed, it just works. If I have worries going on, it`s
tougher.. And then there are days that just nothing seems to work. I throw
up my hands, play with a cat, or do laundry.
Don`t let it stress you.. in time it will work and be a relaxing, meditative
time..
Good luck,
Best wishes from Lela, on the Canadian prairies, enjoying amazing warm
weather. There is global warming going on out there.

Bambi, if you will take your wooden slant pointed stick and cut a bevel just
above the bat by say 1/2" or less, and cut away that excess clay with a
needle tool level with the bat or wheel head, it will give you a place to
put your fingers, cut the pot off with a wire or string, and it will just
lift off nice as pie. Small ones to practice on are easy, but the larger
you get, the more balancing you will need to practice to get it to the ware
board or final resting place.
