Perhaps put a large mirror about 3 to 6 feet from your wheel so you can "eyeball" your work while making the piece. I do that to improve the shape of my pieces. It works for me - sometimes you are to close to see what the shape is - so glance in the mirror and check your shape once in a while. P.S. I got my mirror at a thrift shop for $4. Sam in Daly City

I imagine it's a sin to purists to rig a jig to throw against to refine
your final straightening.
