Catherine:

If you are using amaco velvet underglazes you can take them up to ^10 no problemo.  Might be an interesting new look for your work.

Hi Cathrine,

Cone 10 clay at cone 04 will be a little more fragile than some earthenware
clays - you can judge for yourself by firing both to cone 04 and testing to
see the difference.

Perhaps firing the cone 10 clay to a higher cone - like cone 2 - certainly
would make a big difference.

Keep in mind - firing any clay high enough to enable mullite formation will
make it much stronger. At cone 2 mullite will just be starting to form.

You could then glaze and refire to cone 04.

Interesting..... bisque-firing it to ^2, then glazing. =0D
I thought ^2 would be too dense to accept glaze. =0D
If this works, it will solve my problem.=0D
Then........... when I buy more clay, I'll get the right one.=0D
BTW, some of my clay is purchased paper clay. =0D
Will the same criteria apply to it.=0D
Again, thanks from=0D

In fact, the brilliant colors of the Amaco Velvets are why I'm playing wi=
th
the lower temperatures. You've fired them to ^10? I'll try that.=0D
