Some time ago I interviewed Mel Jacobson over the phone. We
talked about his book, teaching high school pottery,
self-reliance, discipline, etc. I've just loaded the
interview to Paragon's website. You can read it at this

Arnold - thanks for posting. I especially like the last quote from Mel in
the interview:

"I love making pots. I still love opening kilns. I absolutely love the
whole process."

It seems to me that love of the work itself is a real make-or-break factor
in any undertaking. Love what you do, do what you love. If you hate
doing something, you'll fail every time. If you don't necessarily hate
it, but just keep at it out of some sense of responsibility, you may get
results, but you'll get burned out. And if you just measure your success
by results, you'll be held back or maybe even wiped out by those
inevitable but usually small failures that occur along the way. You have
to get satisfaction and reward from the process itself to keep on the path
to success. Mel has the key to success for sure.
