At a workshop a few years ago, I had an attendee bring a batch
of candy that looked and worked just like clay. It was made with
peanut butter and cocoa. She had it in a plastic bag.

Well, we worked out a plan - during the workshop, with all watching,
she got out some of the 'clay' and asked me to evaluate it - would it
be good for extruding?
I formed a ball, rolled it into a snake, and slowly wrapped it around
my pinky, and then, most seriously, took a big bite.
...one of those priceless moments. It was a good 5 seconds before
anyone figured out the joke and the looks of astonishment turned
into smiles.

i made a batch of cooked spooze and
bread. i call it caramel/sticky/spooze buns.
wonderful. but, never use grog, it gets in
your teeth.

it was one of the funniest stories about
teaching high school.

often kids would bake things, boys and girls..bring
goodies to the clay room.
we always had a few bits and things around.

often, uninvited guests would sneak into the
room and snitch a few cookies...most often faculty.
hehe, `they won't miss a couple of cookies`.

we made soft clay cookies.
nice and brown, fresh clay...sprinkle a bit
of china clay on the tops.
or, use a fork and make those wonderful
peanut butter cookie patterns. (sort of like the vince colored clay
workshop...kids would mess with iron for days to get the
color right..and, a motivated kid could really make a nice
clay cookie.)

a touch of foil, or saran wrap. remember, always
keep an old brownie pan around your art room..just for
clay brownies. soft, elegant, nummmy.
set them out on the attendance table.

never had a complaint..but, we counted
cookies every hour.
always one or two missing.

at the end of the year we would fire up a few
cookies and give them to deserving kids.
you know, those kids that always gave back
more then they got.
on the back was just a simple..
`above and beyond.`
they would cry.
a 40 year old women stopped me at the mall
one day...she said..`you know mel, i still have
my clay cookie on my dresser...after all these
years...my husband is very careful with it.`
