Can I get this recipe to perform at ^6 reduction? It is a great red
in ^10 reduction.

Tomatoe Red ^9-10 red.

Bone ash 11.6
Magnesium Carb. 7.1
Soda Spar 48.3
Kaolin EPK 7.1
Flint 25.9

add:
red iron 7.1
bentonite 1.3

Thanks, Eric in Oceanside

Dear Eric;

Your glaze is red because of the Phosphorus in the bone ash and the
sodium in the spar. Bone ash does not like to really work at cone 6, so
you may have trouble getting a red at that temperature. These glazes
also like to be reduced before re-oxidizing for the red.

Good Luck,

This is the glaze often used for 'red' at cone 6 oxidation. I have read
that adding bone ash to this brightens it up so I'm not sure about bone
ash not working at cone 6. The amount to add is very small (1%?). People
will refire the pot in the bisque fire when the glaze goes brown. The red
is an earthy red not 'Target' red.
