Glaze test for Nutmeg, Ron Roy Revision, cone 6, ox.

Source: Clayart

Credited to: Ron Roy, original Nutmeg glaze, Richard Busch

Fired on mid fire white stoneware

Firing ramp with an electric controller is:
100c p/h to 600c (212f - 1112f)
150c p/h to 1140c (302f - 2084f)
80c p/h to 1220c (176f - 2228f)
15 min. soak
cool down max. to 900c (1652f)
Hold 1 hour
Shut off kiln

Recipe: Original

22.5 Dolomite (23.3)

19.5 G200 Spar -

10 Spodumene (23.3)

7 Frit 3134 (6.8)

22.5 OM4 (23.3)

18.5 Silica (23.33)

-------------------------------------

100 gram

ADD (same for original recipe)

1.07 RIO

3.24 Ochre

4.85 Tin Oxide

Note: All raw materials are measured up or down to the nearest half
decimal. Colorants or additives to a 100 gram batch are measured in percent
to the 100 gram batch.

Results:

Ron Roy's revision has a similar surface, but lighter overall color than
the original recipe. The surface is gloss, smooth and variegated with a
rust to honey brown ground, and white streaking and speckling overall. The
original recipe is a deeper, red brown, with similar white streaking and
speckling.

The reason for the revision is - the original had a very low expansion rate.

To get it darker do a line belend adding more iron.

I just did a serious browsing of your glaze pictures and came across MC6
licorice base with Rutile and think it is lovely. Does it run? With a
green or blue glaze I could see opal. I really like Ron Roy's Nutmeg
revised. It reminds me of a reduction shino I really liked when I gas
fired.

Your latest pictures are really ideal. Thank you for all your work. Donna

Hi,
Could you tell me where I can find this image of the
licorice base with rutile? I have the book.
Thanks,
Lela on the windy prairie.

Hi Lela,
It is a just a test I made using the Licorice base and then adding Rutile
as a colorant. It is similar to many other Shell glazes, with a white fur
effect over the claybody and/or underlying glaze, if used as an
overglaze. I often use Rutile containing glazes as overglazes, because I
like the effect.

You can see the Licorice base with Rutile at

This is the link (or under your tests June 8, 2005, MC6 Licorice base with
rutile).

So here is the old issue of some programs splitting the URL (web
address) onto two or more lines and therefore excluding the end of
the address.

The easiest way to deal with this is to join the two (or more) lines.
Then the URL should be clickable.

Alternatively, you can copy each segment from the email program into
the address bar of the browser.

Now, to avoid this mess in the first place, the author of the
original message can simply enclose the URL between angle brackets,
as in:

803411474454/19>

Now even if the URL is split, it will (oh, all right... SHOULD) be clickable.

The angle brackets are the most (heh) standard method of delineating
URLs, however, some programs will also work with regular parentheses
or other brackets, as in....

803411474454/19)

803411474454/19]

Last however (and maybe Too Much Information)... the potters.org
archives seems to ignore anything enclosed within angle brackets.
So... what to do? That's an exercise left for the reader.

Regards,
Maurice

Hi Maurice,
I know nothing, you know, I am from New Jersey and have to speak Danish.

Thanks for all the info. about urls because I am not really too smart
(informed?) in that sector.

People send me mails regularly where they can see the photos of my glaze
tests. Nothing has changed since the beginning of my glaze test time
(AG), and those addresses are

www.alisapots.dk with a link to Yahoo (thank you genius Gail)
or
http://new.photos.yahoo.com/alisapots/albums

Maurice is so right, I am from New Jersey. I love New Jersey. I used to
wear black dresses and mingle. I read fashion magazines.

This morning I am going to the pork butcher to buy pig bladders to stretch
over the copies of historical pots I am making for a time honored
tradition here in South Denmark. Funny where life can take you.

Best regards from Alisa, yes, in Denmark

Thanks Lynne and Maurice,

for your posts. It was Don`s tiny url that finally did it.
Thank`s Don.
For my daughter`s wedding, I made 28 ivory coloured platters.
Each had 3 `shot glasses` of varieing heoghts to hold floating
candles.Flowers floated in the platter. table centers. So, now I am using
many of these to experiment with layered glazes, some
mixed myself, some Stroke and Coats. A few go in each glaze fireing.
I am getting some interesting results.
Best wishes from Lela

Hi ALisa,

Yahoo tells me that url will not work.
Any other way to get there?

I am testing combinations of shiny over matts, rutiles, Gerstley
borate wash , to get more excitement going on with my
work too. The results can certainly become `individual`.

Best wishes from Lela

Lela,

I had the same problem when trying the address for Alisa's site. When I copied and pasted the address, it only took the first line of the address. I finally got the site when I manually typed in the numbers from the second line of the address, without any spaces. For me, that was adding the 803411 etc.
