Wow, that looks great! I can't believe we did it. shawpottery.com
lives! It now exists in the great world of the Internet! We have
arrived! Shameless self-promotion, yes? Nah, not really... read on,
dear friends!
In the last few days we finally got our own domain name and designed
our very first website.
We would appreciate comments, suggestions, critiques, reviews,
critiques, assessments, analysis, examinations, evaluations, or
heck... even faint words of damning praise would be fine! Or damning
words of faint praise, which is it? No matter, both welcome!
It is not our intent at this time to turn Shawpotttery.com into a
huge moneymaker. We have trouble keeping up with the inventory for
the Santa Barbara Arts and Crafts Show as it is, and that's only once
a week! Right now our hope is simply for present customers to have a
place to re-order if they desire. Oh, and to share our ware with
family and friends, allow them to see what keeps us out of trouble,
off the street and out of jail.
So on to the questions, right now, only 3!
1) I know putting links on your website is a good idea. But how do
you know what links you should add. We just have two right now, but I
have seen everything from cancer support to you name it...
2} And a huge question? How do we get Shawpottery.com to show up on
the search engines. Oh shoot, just thought, that's probably in the
archives. Ok, I'll look there in the morning, it's late and we are
heading to bed!
Needless to say, at this point we are very happy we are Mac'ers and
have IWeb. Of course, now that we have had a taste of designing, we
want more options, more... more...
Joe and I are both showing ceramics now, I am just starting to do
some slab work and hope to do more. We want to link the pottery
webpage to my photography page eventually... someday... when we get
THAT site built.
And the big one...
3) Whatcha think folks?

Here is information on how to add your site to Google.

Most search engines "crawl" the web now. They look up domain names and go
hunting...

Rita (and Joe),
If you can, get someone to link to you, that will definitely generate
traffic, and Google (and many other search engines) will also give you
more "credit" for links to your site than from your site. I wouldn't
recommend putting too many unrelated links on your site (when my own
site finally goes up, it will have none at all) - this is partly
because of the image it presents, and moreover, Google ratings tend to
go down dramatically if you have too many unrelated links on your
site.
Cheers,
Tim
