I'm interested in learning about firing with laser water slide decal =
paper. Is anyone aware of a source for simple line art preprinted =
commercial decals?

Hi Lisa,

You may want to check out Decal Specialists, they have a wide range of
decals and can also create custom decals from your own artwork. I recently
had some made up and was very happy with the service and results. See them
at http://www.decalspecialists.com.au/

Graham

I guess my earlier reply went right to you and bypassed the group so,
this time I posted it here for all to see!

If you plan on making your own decals see my home page (below) for a
lot of info on the processes.

As far as firing laser image decals is concerned, you want to put
them on top of a pre-fired glaze and fire hot enough to soften up the
glaze you used. This may be a couple of cones less than the firing
temperature for that particular glaze, If you rub it when cool it
should not rub off. If it does, fire hotter next time.
Do not try to glaze over it as the iron image will virtually disappear .

Also be aware that a lot of the cheap new black and white laser
printers do not use iron in the image anymore, They use a dye or
carbon pigment that burns out . That goes for the color ones too.

You can put these decals on bisque if it is fired to a high cone in
reduction (cone 9 or 10). That is hot enough to reduce the iron and
you get a darker chocolate color.

Some ceramic suppliers have a lot of decals. Mostly they are
"gorgeous" full color art and expensive. Aardvark has a lot.

Chinese Clay Art is importing some from China. These are mostly
alcohol activated decals.(You have to put alcohol in the soaking
water) There are
none on this web site but he has a paper catalog that is more
complete and I saw some at my local ceramic supplier.
